Members Update

Another positive week at the club!

I am happy to report that the high levels of member recruitment continue to be strong and that we are heading steadily towards having 800 members of Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club on the books in the coming weeks. The feel around the club is incredibly positive and an indication of where we are heading as a club in the future. I cannot wait until we can start having some bigger club functions, social events and golfing away trips in the very near future. The club culture is building and is going to be something great!

With a healthy membership comes participation and it's great to see so many entrants into the Club Championships starting this weekend. This will be a first Club Championship for many new members and the excitement levels are sky high. Ive had so many members walk past the office telling me to watch out for their name on the honour boards after the Championships conclude. Good on you all! Please read the Club Captain's preview of the Championships below.

We continue to market the Golf Academy and produce the next generation of Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club members. This week was an exciting week as we launched all our new Golfing Clinics and initiatives. There is a real buzz around the Academy, the team are excited to see it turning into a serious golf tuition hub for the community and club. See report below.

Finally, my well wishes to all competitors this weekend as they brave the challenge of 3 to 4 stroke rounds in challenging tournament conditions. Remember to be patient, 3 OR 4 rounds of golf is substantial and can afford you enough time to make a run once you have put yourself in contention

Enjoy the golf and have a great weekend.

Club Championship 2020

Club Championships first round starts this weekend!

We hope everyone is excited to compete in the 2020 Clubbies.

If you had asked me a month or so ago that we would be conducting the event at all I would have said no way, too many unknowns, too many restrictions. However, the fantastic COVID results over the last month, and subsequent easing of restrictions has allowed us to put our 20th Championships on at short notice.

Mark and his team have delivered us with a wonderfully presented course that will provide a significant challenge to all levels. The popular 'Tournament Tee' set up that we have used since 2016, which provides a mixture of Blues, Blacks and some White tees for the Men, and a modified Pink course for the Women is back in place. Pin Placements will be in line with previous years and make players think about how they navigate their way around the course. There are some fun ones to look out for!

The Open Men's category this year is as strong as we have ever seen it, and they will all be chasing the defending champion Imran Muftarov. Daniel Adem is back to hopefully redeem himself from his epic 4 hole sudden death playoff loss in 2019.  Plus don't forget the 3 time champion Mark Grimsditch, or the in form 5 time champion Travis Sharpe! Or will there be a new first time winner this year from a pool of very strong players? We will know on 13 December!

In the Women's category it is Joanne Tey's championship to lose. Joanne has only got better since her win last year and we expect another strong showing. In the Junior's category we will crown a new champion this year with defending champ Jake Findlay turning 18.  Which up and coming star will burst through and kick off their golfing career?

We will also conduct a Senior Men's event again for the 55 - 64 year olds and a few recent 55 year old spring chickens will be vying for the title. The Super Seniors Men and Women, 65 years and overs will tee off on 7 December.

The M&G committee asks all players to please make an effort to keep their place in the field. Only spending 3 minutes looking for any lost balls and being aware of your pace of play will really help every player enjoy their day.  Remember we have the 2 shot drop on the fairway rule that can be used for lost balls only (not penalty areas or OOB). We are also retaining preferred lies in the bunker for this year's event.

We hope all competitors enjoy testing themselves in our showcase event over the next 3 weekends.

Let's hope the weather remains kind.

Course Update

Our week was dominated by Club Championship preparation with the entire team getting involved in the presentation of the course for the premier event of our golfing calendar. Our 2 new recruits to the team have come in handy as we tackled the storm affected bunkers following Monday's deluge.

We sprayed for couch mite in the week and kept the fairways slightly longer Wednesday, Thursday for the chemical to take affect. Following the cut today, the fairways are looking fantastic!

We also managed to diagnose and rectify the electrical fault in our irrigation lines leading to the 8th Tee. This is a great relief and it's great to have all systems working as expected again.

On behalf of the team, we all hope you enjoy the golf course over the weekend. Play well.

Cadet Tuesday Competitions
For those unaware, the next step for juniors aged between 5-12 at Sanctuary Lakes is the cadet membership. This includes access to the course after 3pm (supervised by an adult) and a few other perks. Cadet members can also attend the Tuesday Cadet Competitions that take place during summer. Basically, we get the kids out on the course with a few modified rules to make it quick, easy and fun.

Covid cut this year's competitions short, however we will be starting again in February 2021! Prizes are still owed for all participants last year!! We will be handing out these prizes at the next Cadet event in February (see final results below).

If you would like your junior to become a cadet member, contact Kacey  club@sanctuarylakesclub.com.au.

There is still time to join our new clinics...
