We hope everyone is excited to compete in the 2020 Clubbies.
If you had asked me a month or so ago that we would be conducting the event at all I would have said no way, too many unknowns, too many restrictions. However, the fantastic COVID results over the last month, and subsequent easing of restrictions has allowed us to put our 20th Championships on at short notice.
Mark and his team have delivered us with a wonderfully presented course that will provide a significant challenge to all levels. The popular 'Tournament Tee' set up that we have used since 2016, which provides a mixture of Blues, Blacks and some White tees for the Men, and a modified Pink course for the Women is back in place. Pin Placements will be in line with previous years and make players think about how they navigate their way around the course. There are some fun ones to look out for!
The Open Men's category this year is as strong as we have ever seen it, and they will all be chasing the defending champion Imran Muftarov. Daniel Adem is back to hopefully redeem himself from his epic 4 hole sudden death playoff loss in 2019. Plus don't forget the 3 time champion Mark Grimsditch, or the in form 5 time champion Travis Sharpe! Or will there be a new first time winner this year from a pool of very strong players? We will know on 13 December!
In the Women's category it is Joanne Tey's championship to lose. Joanne has only got better since her win last year and we expect another strong showing. In the Junior's category we will crown a new champion this year with defending champ Jake Findlay turning 18. Which up and coming star will burst through and kick off their golfing career?
We will also conduct a Senior Men's event again for the 55 - 64 year olds and a few recent 55 year old spring chickens will be vying for the title. The Super Seniors Men and Women, 65 years and overs will tee off on 7 December.
The M&G committee asks all players to please make an effort to keep their place in the field. Only spending 3 minutes looking for any lost balls and being aware of your pace of play will really help every player enjoy their day. Remember we have the 2 shot drop on the fairway rule that can be used for lost balls only (not penalty areas or OOB). We are also retaining preferred lies in the bunker for this year's event.
We hope all competitors enjoy testing themselves in our showcase event over the next 3 weekends.
Let's hope the weather remains kind.
From the Club Captain
