Members Update

Time flies when you are having fun!

I cannot believe that is already February! January, has been a busy month with many reasons to celebrate, especially if you represented Australia in annual Greg Norman Cup that is.

It was another excellent club day filled with colour and spirit! Congratulations to all members who put their name down to represent their country of birth. We have an incredibly multi-cultured membership base and this made for fun filled day of golf, culminating in the host team taking home the spoils for 2021. I have no doubt the ROW team will be hungrier than ever to snatch back the Greg Norman Cup next year. Small report and photo below.

Things are ramping up as we get closer to our Pennant season. Uniforms have been sent off for embroidery and practice sessions for all teams have now started in earnest. Our Junior and Colts teams benefitting from the expertise of our very own Golf Academy facilities and coaching staff. See detailed report below.

Good luck to our North West Regional Pennant team, who are unbeaten in the season so far. they will be playing Werribee Park on Sunday with a comprehensive win promising a home final. Good luck team!

Club events keep on coming and the opportunities to get involved amongst other members continue. see the February event list below as well as a summary of all important dates of 2021. CLICK HERE

Please also be advised that masks must be worn in all indoor settings, by both the public and staff, unless you are eating or drinking.

Have a great weekend and see you at the club soon.

Kind regards,

Shaun Bakker

Golf Course Update

Apart from regular maintenance of the playing surfaces the team also managed to work on the following areas over the last fortnight.

  • Greens, tees and fairways have been fertilised over the last 2 week, utilising the natural rainfall during the process.
  • 18th bare patch on approach has been scarified, top dressed & sprigged. We have green shoots coming through in only14 days (see photo). It will be great to eventually see this area fully recovered in the coming weeks.
  • Bunker weed and grass has been sprayed, to be completed next week.
  • Pythium Blight, Pythium Root Dysfunction & Brown Patch diseases have been diagnosed early and sprayed for on all greens this week. They will receive a follow up application next week. (Photo attached)

January rainfall was 90mm! It has been a great month as the conditions have also been fairly mild meaning we have managed to restrain for spending too much resource on water in Jan.  Fairway sprinklers still a problem with the centre pieces breaking, these are being repaired as we go.

Thanks to Neil Fitzpatrick and Kevin Birtles for spot spraying the paspalum around the course this week.

Enjoy the course over the weekend!

Golf Academy Update

Junior / Colts Performance Program

The Junior Performance Programme will be delivered by Club Professionals Michael, Daniel, Marcus and George.

The programme is designed to continue to strengthen our commitment to Junior Golf at SL and enhancing the pathway we have developed over a number of years.

This programme will be offered free of charge to Junior / Colt members with the aim to gaining their commitment to representing SLC in Golf Victoria Pennant (held in October/November). We believe this program will develop their golfing skills, making them better golfers and ultimately winning some flags in the process.

We are able to offer this due to the ongoing financial support of Club Sponsors, primarily the Young Achievers Foundation (formerly Sanctuary Lakes Foundation)

Sessions will be run on a Thursday evening, and are kicked off last night. see photos below.

Farewell Chris

This week we said our farewells to Chris Andrews.

Chris will be missed dearly by the staff team and members alike.

We thank him for his hard work and dedication to the club. Chris leaves a thriving Junior Academy which he has built up over the years.

We wish him all the best in his new role at New South Wales Golf Club.

Good luck Chris!
